Thursday we took off to Lancaster County, home of the Amish. We went to ride the Strasburg Train, the oldest steam engine in operation in the country. We had visited the train museum with my Mom, but didn't have a chance to actually ride it so Sam was excited to say the least. Before we went to the train station, we stopped at an Amish Quilt/Fabric store in a nearby town. The pic above is of the boys outside the store stretching their legs after a long car ride. The background is a common scene in Lancaster; green lush fields, blue sky and rolling hills..very beautiful I think.Sam got to meet the conductor & ask him a few questions. He learned that the conductor only takes the tickets. It's the engineer who drives the train. Sam felt pretty proud to get his picture with him.
The ride was about 45 minutes. Sam asked me to hold his hand as we anticipated the "take off" but he soon realized that this train was a lot different from the subways and trains he rode in New York. This is our engine passing by as it turned around to pull us back the other direction to the station.
Benjamin can be a busy body so it was Nana's job to make sure he didn't try to climb out the window. But as you can see, he ended up being more fascinated with getting Nana's glasses than trying to climb outside.
